Scientific Team

The editorial team, consisting of Prof. Beat Föllmi, Prof. Ansgar Franz and Dr. Christiane Schäfer, shares responsibility for the scientific content of the database.

Data collection is carried out by a team from the two partner universities and is mainly performed by the staff of the research centre „Kirchenlied und Gesangbuch“ in Mainz.

Technical support for the database is provided by the University of Strasbourg within the platform Open Access of Knowledge (univOAK), under the direction of Prof. Beat Föllmi.

Beat Föllmi

The musicologist and theologian Beat Föllmi is Professor of Church Music and Hymnology at the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the University of Strasbourg since 2012. In the field of hymnology, he is particularly interested in psalm singing in the Reformed tradition and in questions of hymns and identity. He is editor-in-chief of the Complete Works of the Swiss composer Othmar Schoeck (Zurich). Among other things, he is a member of the editorial team of the journals Revue dʼHistoire et de Philosophie Religieuses (Strasbourg) and Foi & Vie

Prof. Ansgar Franz

Ansgar Franz

Ansgar Franz is Professor of Liturgical Studies and Homiletics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since 2005. His research focuses on traditions and rites surrounding death and burial, the position of the Old Testament in Christian liturgies, Latin medieval hymnography and German church hymns. He is editor of the series „Pietas Liturgica“ and „Pietas Liturgica.Studia. Interdisciplinary Contributions to Liturgical Studies“ (Francke Verlag) and director of the Mainz research centre „Kirchenlied und Gesangbuch“ (Church Hymns and Hymnals).

Christiane Schäfer

Christiane Schäfer

Christiane Schäfer studied German language and literature, book science and folklore at the University of Mainz. She received her doctorate in modern German literary history with a thesis on the topic „Wunderschön prächtige – Geschichte eines Marienliedes“ (Tübingen: Francke 2006, MHS 18). Since 2010, she is a researcher at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and deputy director of the research centre „Kirchenlied und Gesangbuch“ (Church Hymns and Hymnals). She is the editor of the series „Mainzer Hymnologische Studien“ (Francke Verlag).
